Good teamwork resulted in more sustainable collection for ICA MAXI

When Fristads was commissioned with developing new workwear for ICA Maxi, the requirements were clear: Deliver more sustainable garments without compromising on quality and durability. The result is a collection that consists of more sustainable material to the greatest extent possible, while the garments meet our stringent requirements on quality and are designed for longevity. To reduce the use of plastic, a special folding technique was also implemented.

The project is an example of how companies can join forces to reduce the environmental footprint from their operations and reach their sustainability goals. In 2021, Fristads started delivering the collection, which includes trousers, shirts, polo shirts, warm garments and classic bakery and delicatessen garments. Anni Jobe, category manager at ICA Sweden, tells us more.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE FRITADS AS A SUPPLIER OF WORKWEAR TO YOUR STORES?

Fristads met the sustainability requirements and offered delivery and ordering functions that were important to the users. Fristads' pitch was modern and focused on comfort. They delivered a comprehensive solution that met all requirements.

HOW DID YOU GO FROM THE IDEA STAGE TO THE FINISHED COLLECTION AND HOW DID THE TEAMWORK WITH FRISTADS WORK?

The teamwork with Fristads was excellent. A group consisting of representatives from ICA Maxi stores, Fristads and ICA Sweden developed the collection. User tests were conducted in store, and Fristads’ designer modified the garments based on the feedback. It was important to consider the users opinions, especially when it came to comfort.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR ICA MAXI TO OFFER THEIR EMPLOYEES MORE SUSTAINABLE WORK CLOTHES?

At ICA Maxi we strive towards sustainability and to reduce our climate impact. By purchasing workwear that has been produced in a more sustainable way, we can reduce our environmental impact from textiles. ICA’s environmental and sustainability requirements for suppliers were also included in the tender.
